The Department of Labor is a partner to Maine businesses in need of assistance navigating the waters of unemployment tax, training programs and workforce development, hiring and accommodating workers with disabilities, wage and hour, workplace safety and health training and consultation services, labor market information, CareerCenter recruiting services and assistance for employers, and federal and state regulations.
The Department consists of five bureaus: Employment Services, Rehabilitation Services, Labor Standards, Unemployment Compensation, and the Center for Workforce Research and Information. It also houses the State Workforce Board. We work with employers to help them hire and train staff, and understand state and federal laws before enforcement becomes an issue.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone complies with the law and that employers have a level playing field by teaching the answers before giving the test.
