The Maine Department of Labor strives to ensure safe working conditions, protection against loss of income and enhanced opportunities for all people of Maine to improve their economic status.
The Department is a partner to businesses and workers in need of assistance understanding unemployment tax, training programs and workforce development, hiring and accommodating workers with disabilities, wage and hour, workplace safety and health training and consultation services, labor market information, CareerCenter recruiting services and assistance for employers and employees.
The Department consists of five bureaus: Employment Services, Rehabilitation Services, Labor Standards, Unemployment Compensation, and the Center for Workforce Research and Information. It also houses the State Workforce Board. We work with employers to help them recruit, hire and understand state and federal laws in order to be in compliance, and with workers to help them reach their employment goals.
