
James Abeyta Stevens, MA, LMHC, SHRM-CP, PHR
James Abeyta Stevens, is originally from Las Vegas, NM (yes, the countries’ original Las Vegas founded in 1835) and is a native New Mexican living and working in Albuquerque, NM. He has a Master’s degree from New Mexico Highlands University in Guidance and Counseling, Professional Counseling. He holds two Bachelor’s Degrees in Marketing and Organizational Psychology.
James is also currently working as a Director of Human Resources in a large Casino Hotel. His HR experience in the Native American gaming industry extending close to two decades. Not only is he running the HR department for the last 12 years, he is assisting those guests and team members with gambling addictions, bereavement, and career counseling. He is an onsite EAP for team members, and a mentor to many HR professionals in the field.
James understands that everyone has a story. He values that story and acknowledges the importance of being able to express it as this is the magic of the human connection in both HR and in counseling. He is committed to helping those on their journey while providing a safe, inclusive and open environment filled with love, hope and understanding.
James is currently the SHRM NM State Council Director-Elect. He holds both HR certifications (PHR and SHRM-CP). He also serves as an independent HR consultant and also is a Therapist at NM Wellness Center.
