Laurie Shakur

Laurie is a Global Human Resources Leader with over 20 years experience. Currently, she is Head of People for Rakuten, Digital Marketing, a Division Rakuten, Inc., the largest e-commerce company in Japan, and third largest e-commerce marketplace company worldwide. Reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for all aspects of the HR function while leading a team of global HRBPs. Her passion is coaching and employee engagement. She provides creative HR solutions by implementing impactful and scalable HR processes and programs globally. Her practical approach includes demystifying communication, identifying and leveraging individual/team strengths and building grass root engagement that supports improving the overall employee experience. Prior to joining Rakuten, Laurie held several HRBP leadership positions with increasing responsibilities in technology, banking, utilities, and financial service organizations.

A lifetime learner, Laurie holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Loyola University of Chicago and has attended executive education programs at Cornell, Stanford and Dartmouth. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR, SHRM-SCM) and as an Executive Coach. Laurie is a founding member of the Bay Area chapter of The National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR) and is an active board member of the Museum of Children’s Art of Oakland.

When not working, Laurie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, yoga and hiking. Laurie also mentors up-and-coming HR professionals where she shares her stories, knowledge, and passion for HR.
