Before law school, Mike attended graduate school at the University of Maine in Orono, where he served as an English Composition Teaching Assistant. During law school in Portland, he taught Writing for Paralegals at University of Southern Maine, he was on the Moot Court Team, he received the AmJur Award in Labor Law, and he worked as an Assistant District Attorney and at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic.
After joining the Maine Bar in 1980, Mike worked in Augusta as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Litigation Department, representing the various medical licensing boards. He then tried cases in military court as a criminal defense attorney in Bamberg, West Germany. Since 1984, Mike has represented Maine employers in workers’ compensation cases. Mike is a shareholder of the firm, he publishes the firm’s workers’ compensation newsletter, The Troubh Heisler Advance (now in its 25th year), and he lectures on workers’ compensation law.
Mike lives on Peaks Island and has served as Vice-President of the Peaks Island Neighborhood Association, Chair of the Island Independence Committee and the Peaks Island Council, and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association. He enjoys golf, music, sailing and astronomy.
