Susan Miele is a bold, transformational talent leader. She is passionate about growing teams, people, and organizations with exceptional results. Currently the Chief People Officer at Ginkgo Bioworks, Susan leads a smart, motivated team, that is charged with accelerating Ginkgo’s mission to make biology easier to engineer.
Prior to joining Ginkgo, Susan built and led the People Team for Foundation Medicine Inc (FMI). Her team facilitated FMI’s growth from 500 to nearly 1700 employees globally in three years. Susan’s leadership fostered a culture of engagement across the company that enabled Foundation Medicine to achieve three Best Places to Work awards in 2020.
Susan previously held senior leadership positions in publishing, professional services, and financial services. Her impressive résumé includes chief people officer at Mobiquity, a venture-backed technology start-up, Omgeo, a DTCC/Thomson Financial Joint Venture; senior partner and practice leader, Camden Consulting Group; Smith & Nephew’s global director of organizational development; and board chair/interim president of Strong Women Strong Girls, a nonprofit mentoring program for low-income girls.
Adept at organizational change and development, Susan leads from a position of deep expertise. She earned her PhD in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding University in 2016. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s degree from Lesley University. Susan also holds graduate certificates in leadership coaching and organization design.
