Tom is the Founder and Principal of the Wilson Group. The Wilson Group is a consulting firm with a simple mission – To help our clients implement their strategy and build their desired culture by aligning their total compensation and reward programs with the key success drivers of the business. They focus on mid-market companies throughout New England (and the world) and bring the experience of working in multiple industries to companies seeking to upgrade how to manage and reward their people.
Tom is a national authority on sales and executive compensation and has over 30 years of professional business and consulting experience. He has worked with numerous boards and top executives to assess the competitiveness and effectiveness of total direct compensation plans, develop total compensation systems for sales organizations and total reward systems for employee groups. He is the author of three books including Innovative Reward Systems for the Changing Workplace (McGraw Hill) and Rewards That Drive High Performance (AMACOM). He has written over 30 articles, book chapters and special features for Fortune Magazine, the Conference Board, Financial Times and Boards and Directors, and appeared in articles in Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, and Boston Business Journal. His clients include Quincy Mutual, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, iRobot, Commonwealth Financial, DentaQuest, Shepley Bulfinch, Copyright Clearance and Harvard University.
Recently, Tom has focused efforts on launching his new book: Next Stage: In Your Retirement, Create the Life You Want. As he began his own “Next Stage,” he wanted to figure out how to make it purposeful and fulfilling. After reading many books about retirement and talking with many retirees, he determined that something important was missing in the market – a resource book that is comprehensive, integrated, easy to understand, and offers concrete guidance on how each person can create the life they want. He shows readers how to understand and manage the retirement transition by learning how to find new directions, assess their financial conditions, create new relationships, stay healthy and become the person they want to be as they enter their own Next Stage.
Prior to forming Wilson Group, Tom was the National Director of Rewards for Aubrey Daniels & Associates; Partner and General Manager of New England for Hay Group, Inc.; and Director of Organizational Consulting for the Forum Corporation. He holds a Master’s degree from Vanderbilt Owen School of Management and Bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University. He lives in Concord with his wife, Martha, and regularly hike the trails of Concord with his dog Ollie.
