A Strategic Model for Caring
What’s it all about? The Convention hosts two Great Leaders breakfasts each year, where we showcase iconic Maine organizations, their contributions to the community, and the human resources dynamic that helps make this happen. We couldn’t be more pleased to lead this year with the Maine Veterans’ Home story, a beloved organization uniquely positioned in the veterans’ care sphere as an independent, nonprofit entity. Founded by the Legislature in 1977, Maine Veterans’ Homes is not reliant on VA funding, yet offers a full array of services for veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents. Reaching to the far corners of the state – Caribou, Machias, Bangor, Augusta, Scarborough, and South Paris – their services include assisted living, rehabilitation, long-term care, and memory and dementia assistance. Kelley Kash, CEO for the past 12 years, and Ken Hann, Director of HR and a longtime friend of this Convention, join us to share the remarkable Maine Veterans’ Homes story.
Why you’ll want to participate in this session.
- Observe how a CEO and HR leader navigate the dynamics of the non-profit world while applying sound business practices to their relationship.
- Witness how they built the business case and obtained board of directors buy-in for a $91 million state of the art facility currently under construction in Augusta, a facility based on a small home model that will transform the way Mainers view long-term care for our veterans.
- See how they work together on a variety of platforms to link the organization’s strategic direction, workplace culture and brand to their human resource functions, with a focus on the role that community connections play in this process.
