How One Pair of Jeans Changed the World
What’s it all about? Mindy Scheier found tremendous success in her career in fashion – working for several prominent brands including the INC collection and Saks Fifth Avenue. Despite outfitting clients with chic and stylish looks as a profession, Mindy found herself in a conundrum when her middle son, Oliver came to her asking to wear jeans to school. Oliver has a rare form of muscular dystrophy which poses challenges with everyday tasks, such as dressing himself. So, up until this point, elastic sweatpants had been the status quo. Refusing to tell her child he couldn’t wear the same clothing as his schoolmates, Mindy got to work crafting a pair of custom jeans for him to wear the next day. This event was the jumping-off point for what is now known as Runway of Dreams, a foundation on a mission to make fashionable, adaptive clothing accessible to the masses.
