Maine HR Convention: May 11-15, 2020 – Virtual+ Edition

MegaSession A: So You Want to Be a B Corp?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2020 @ 2:45 pm - 4:30 pm

How Mission-Driven Businesses Create Impact

What’s it all about? In 2019 Allagash Brewing Company announced their official designation as a Certified B Corp as well as becoming the first company to achieve benefit corporation status in the State of Maine. This means the organization is held to the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability to each of their stakeholders: workers, customers, their community, and the environment. Jeff Pillet-Shore (Marketing Director, Allagash) and Fiona Wilson (B Corp Expert, University of New Hampshire) will join us to share the impetus, process, and results of implementing these self-imposed guidelines in the organization. They will discuss the difference between a B Corp and a Benefit Corporation, the steps to achieving each designation, and how the process has reinforced and supported each of Allagash’s core values: an exemplary employee experience, giving back to the community, and environmental stewardship.

Why you’ll want to participate in this session:

  • Become an advocate within your organization’s leadership team for business initiatives with high social and environmental standards.
  • Develop a strategy to utilize your organization’s values as a framework for accountability through B Corp or Benefit Corporation designation.
  • Establish strategic alliances within your organization and with community partners to assist in achieving measurable objectives as set by your B Corp strategy.

Approved for SHRM Credit and HRCI Business Credit.
