MegaSession B: Accommodation Requests

Wednesday, May 11th, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Challenge even the most seasoned HR pro

Why you’ll want to attend. “I need… a new supervisor, an emotional support parrot, an exemption from working before or after darkness, and leave to seek treatment in Hawaii, in February.” These are just a handful of employee accommodation requests unearthed by Anne-Marie Storey. Combine these with the more conventional and appropriate requests flowing from the Covid world – individuals working remotely and individuals considering where their talents are best suited – and the matter of workplace accommodations becomes more central than ever to your work in HR. In this session, Anne-Marie will guide attendees through accommodation and related leave issues with examples, advice, recommendations, and, perhaps most importantly, humor.

What’s it all about?

  • Discover how the requirement for accommodation of various conditions under the ADA and religious beliefs under Title VII are a struggle for even the most seasoned HR department.
  • Learn how to frame an accommodation request and engage in the decision-making process and implementation.
  • Leave this session with a better understanding of the law, what a reasonable request is, and how you need to match decisions in this arena to smart business decisions and organizational values.
