Workshop B: HR and Finance

Monday, October 28th, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:45 am

Forging a Resource Realistic Partnership

What’s it all about? It is no surprise that HR and Finance can be at odds with each other’s goals. HR, perceived as an expense department, seeks the budgetary means to meet the needs of its employees, and up to 70% of a company’s budget may be focused on Human Capital. Finance, with its focus on budget constraint and cost-cutting measures, may not be particularly accommodating. Gary Convertino, Ed.D., SHRM-CP/PHR and Daniel Modelane join us to discuss how an Executive HR Professional and CFO crafted a successful partnership to help overcome these inherent conflicts. They will discuss their relationship at Dean College and will use a variety of tools to stimulate audience thinking and participation, including a participatory “Red Shirt/Blue Shirt” exercise.

Why you’ll want to participate in this session.

  • Observe the advantage of powerful C-Suite relationships between human resources and finance, and their connection with the CEO.
  • Learn how to perfect the personal dynamics between the people function and finance function of your organization; including what an effective relationship means in terms of shared language and knowledge.
  • Understand how HR’s strategic planning process connects with an organization’s overall strategic direction as bridged by the quest for great talent and the money that helps make this happen.
  • Consider the creative initiatives you can employ to share financial knowledge within your HR department, helping your team become more connected to both the company mission and the financial underpinnings that allow for success.
