Workers’ Comp Summit: Aug 25-27, 2019 – Samoset Resort, Rockport, ME

Workshop C: The Post-Offer, Pre-Placement Medical Evaluation

Monday, August 26th, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 10:45 am

Asset or Liability?

What’s it all about?  Let the data tell the story, which Kenji Saito, MD, JD (Medical Director of MaineGeneral’s Workplace Health) and Tamii Rose (Claims Specialist at Zurich Insurance) intend to do in this workshop. Come and review research on post-offer, pre-placement medical evaluations and related outcomes, potential value, and whether it is more a liability than an asset to your onboarding process. Dr. Saito will discuss the use of data in workers’ comp and translate this research into action for your workforce. Tamii joins the discussion to present information on how employers can show significant savings in workers’ comp claims through pre-placement/post-offer medical evaluations and by appropriately accommodating employees. To be this proactive in managing claims may not be the typical claims management approach, but it’s the goal of this session to head organizations in this direction.

Why you’ll want to participate in this session.

  • Discuss the pros and cons of a pre-placement evaluation.
  • Understand how standardizing pre-placement physical exams may reduce OSHA recordability.
  • Learn how this data applies to workers’ compensation claims.
  • Evaluate opportunities for managing claims proactively rather than reacting to post-injury challenges.

Approved for 1.25 SHRM, HRCI (HR) General, and Maine Attorney CLE Credits.

Applying for CCMC Credit.
