Workshop D: The Art and Science of Influential Conversations

Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Build Your Organizational Impact

What’s it all about? Successful leaders influence positive change and embrace the conversations necessary to accomplish that. HR professionals often are so relationship-focused that they rely on a singular strategy to avoid conflict and not say what needs to be said. So, how do you wield influence and obtain buy-in for your initiatives across the organization? Janet LaFlamme, from Keystone Coaching and Consulting, offers a six-part approach to help us move from goal to result. Some pre-conference work and participatory online polling during the session will bring these methods to life. You’ll leave this session with a better understanding of how to influence your internal customers and align with them in mutual support of your strategies.

Why you’ll want to participate in this session.

  • Participate in pre-conference preparation, including an Influence Planning Tool, that will help you define examples of high-stakes workplace conversations in which you have participated and the opportunities and challenges they present.
  • Discuss the principles of influence that will help you in a range of HR functions, from performance reviews, coaching, and your advocacy for HR strategy.
  • Conclude the session with an individualized plan for influencing conversations upon your return to work.

Approved for SHRM Credit and HRCI General (HR) Credit.
